Freedom House is a temporaty shelter for refugees who are seeking asylum in the U.S. and Canada. At any given time, the shelter is home to individuals and families who come from 12 or more countries and who speak as many languages. They represent various cultures and religious traditions.

At Freedom House we believe that our "Diversity is our strength". When you walk into Freedom House you encounter a micro global community. Freedom House hosts people from all over the world and from all walks of life, faiths and ethnicity.

What Freedom House residents share in common is their suffering and their hope as refugees. They have fled political, ethnic or religious persecution and violations of their human rights. Most of them are survivors of torture. They often arrive mentally and physically exhausted, suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). They have little or no knowledge of family members left behind.
